Dear Colleagues,

Further to the Executive Vice-President (Administration & Finance)'s earlier email on the review of medical benefits, we are pleased to inform you that the following enhancements have been made to the University's Staff Medical Benefits Scheme:

(a) improve the reimbursement limits for the following items:
(i) emergency consultation (from $50 to $100);
(ii) intensive care treatment (from $2,010 to $14,600 per day, for up to 7 days per year);
(iii) use of operation theatre (currently not separately provided, $2,000 for minor operation, $3,500 for intermediate operation, $6,000 for major operation and $10,000 for complex operation)
(iv) complex operations (surgeon's fee: from $40,370 to $60,000, anesthetist's fee: $14,140 to $16,000);

(b) rationalize the hospitalization benefits for staff at Band A/ TOSIII and Band B/ TOS II equivalent staff. Bands A and B staff will now be eligible for ward class in private hospitals. Serving staff at Band B or equivalent Terms of Service II staff, including those whose offer of appointment was made before October 1, 2013, will continue to enjoy the existing hospitalization benefit at up to 2nd class ward of HA hospitals.

The University is negotiating with the outside panel groups regarding the arrangement for Chinese medicine and primary medical and dental care on self-pay basis. Details will be provided once available.
