Updates on Peer Review of Teaching for the Major Personnel Events for Professoriate and Teaching Staff26 Feb, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

Peer Review of Teaching for the Major Personnel Events for Professoriate and Teaching Staff

This is to provide an update on the timeline for the peer review requirement for major personnel events for Professoriate and Teaching Staff. After careful consideration and consultation with the Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), the Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development), and the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, we have decided to defer the original timeline for the peer review requirement for various types of major events, including the promotion of Teaching Staff, contract renewal for both fractional and full-time Professoriate and Teaching Staff on a fixed-term basis, and initial reappointment beyond retirement age of Professoriate Staff.

2.         The original timeline of March 1, 2024 has been revised to July 1, 2024. This new timeline will align with that of the tenure and promotion (for the Promotion and Tenure Panel to submit the peer review reports to Central) and hopefully provide sufficient time for Faculties to adequately prepare and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for a successful rollout.

3.         To facilitate a smooth and effective implementation of the peer review process, the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre (TALIC) and the Human Resources Office (HRO) will be working together. TALIC will visit the faculties in March and early April to promote the new requirements and workshops. Additionally, a virtual training module will be launched by TALIC within March to enable online learning. HRO will reach out to all Faculties from time to time to ensure progress before the new timeline and will maintain close communication with TALIC to stay informed about the training enrollment situation.

4.         If you have any further queries regarding the peer review process and training, please do not hesitate to contact TALIC at talic@hku.hk. For any HR-related queries, please feel free to contact the HR Managers serving your faculties.

We appreciate your attention and support to this important matter.
