Special transfer option to Bupa CarePro Health Insurance Scheme upon retirement/leaving University26 May, 2014

The University has arranged with Bupa to provide all full-time staff who are eligible for hospitalisation benefits and catastrophic insurance a special transfer option to Bupa's individual hospital plan - Bupa CarePro Health Insurance Scheme, upon leaving the University's appointment/retirement, with the special offer that pre-existing conditions will be covered in the Bupa CarePro Scheme.

Major features of this transfer option include:

a) guaranteed transfer to the same level benefits, i.e. colleagues who are eligible for plan 1 under the University's Staff Medical Benefits Scheme (SMBS) can choose to transfer to plan 1/2/3 (Hospital & Surgical Benefit - private/semi-private/ward room ) of Bupa CarePro Scheme; those under plan 2 of SMBS can choose to transfer to plan 2/3 (Hospital & Surgical Benefit - semi-private/ward room) of Bupa CarePro Scheme, those under plan 3 of SMBS can transfer to plan 3 (Hospital & Surgical Benefit - ward class) of Bupa CarePro Scheme;

b) pre-existing conditions will be covered in the BupaCarePro Scheme. That means general exclusion is subject to the Terms & Conditions of BupaCarePro Scheme and the "Pre-existing conditions" clause under general exclusion will be specially waived;

c) guaranteed lifelong cover under Bupa CarePro Scheme;

d) membership renewal regardless of health status and without individual loading;

e) membership renewal regardless of amount and number of claims made; and

f) free three-month premium subscription (this discount offer is better than Bupa's current promotion).

This transfer option is open to all full-time staff who are eligible for hospitalisation benefits and catastrophic insurance and who, upon leaving the University, have served for at least six months.

Colleagues who would like to take up this transfer option should contact Bupa before their last day of appointment with the University. The application process should be completed within one month after the last day of appointment.
